And The Winner Is….

You may remember about a month ago I asked you to vote for your favorite live act of 2009, as the Brit Awards decided so rudely to snub the category (along with many others and some fantastic artists, shame).

So, without further ado, the act you have voted for Best Live Act 2009 is…

Yes that’s right, Muse! And a very well deserved award after their fantastic Resistance tour in October/November. Here are a few shots from when I saw them at Sheffield on 4th November last year – enjoy!

Even from the very back, quite a spectacular light show!

Uprising - and the amazing, moving video columns / stages

More laser amazingness!

Beautiful Lighting!

A spectacular end to a spectacular show!

Nathan Osmond is an accomplished American country singer who has been performing for 25 years. He released his debut solo album ‘Feels Like Heaven’ (produced by Grammy Award winning producer/songwriter, Gary Baker) late last year.

Being the son of 70’s star Alan Osmond, Nathan is part of the Osmond second generation. During the early 90’s, Nathan and his brothers signed up with Curb Records and Epic/Sony in Europe and achieved three songs in the top 40 in the UK. Now, Nathan is focussing on his solo career.

Nathan worked with Dean Sams of the country group Lonestar, on four of the tracks from ‘Feels Like Heaven’ and describes the album as ‘Perfect for the contemporary Country listener.’  His hit single, ‘Sweet’ has already been picked up by CMT in America to be featured on a new reality show.

His style combines all the charisma of The Osmonds whilst remaining contemporary. Unlike a lot of chart music today, this is the sort of music which is meaningful, emotional and ultimately has staying power.

Having heard the album, I can safely say that it sounds like a gem! Each of the tracks are instantly likeable, and Nathan really has got amazing vocal and musical talent, which is quite remarkable in this day and age. The tracks which instantly stand out to me are ‘Sweet’ and ‘Feels Like Heaven’. But as I say, each of them are instantly likeable – well worth a listen!

But don’t just take my word for it, find out for yourself – Watch Nathan’s Sizzle Reel here!

You can buy his album physically, or download the album exclusively from Nathan’s official site.

One Shot – JLS

JLS are arguably one of the better acts to come out of the money-making machine, The X Factor. Their self titled debut album went straight to number one in the UK charts along with both of their previous singles ‘Beat Again’ and ‘Everybody In Love’. So how does ‘One Shot’ measure up with their previous singles?

Predictable. Do not be fooled by the first thirty seconds of this song, (although even that isn’t much better, very Westlifeish and typical of Louis Walsh) it soon sounds the same as every other track from their album. Which is a real shame. I will admit that for a few seconds at the beginning I was excited. Sure it would be very generic of Louis Walsh, but really quite different for JLS.

There really isn’t much new to say about ‘One Shot’, it’s basically ‘Everybody In Love’ but with different lyrics. JLS are officially the Scouting for Girls of R&B. Yes it’s catchy, I can tell that as it persists on entering my head every few minutes, but soon it just blends into ‘Everybody In Love’ and I can barely tell the difference.

My opinion is that it’s neither good nor bad. It just sort of washes over me, and personally I find it quite stagnant. Basically, if you liked ‘Everybody In Love’ and ‘Beat Again’ you’ll love ‘One Shot’, but if not – avoid this track!

‘One Shot’ will be released 22nd February
